Etc Etc

What a blahh-ish Friday. I'm having an extreme bad hair day. I'm usually pretty blonde, but I went darker this winter. Today I am just sooo sick of the brown. I've been browsing for cute hair ideas/inspiration. This has yielded several different thoughts and tangents. I really like Olivia Wilde's color in the picture below. I think the red undertone makes her skin and eyes pop. P.S. everyone remember her on the OC as Marissa's lesbian love? (above) nice faux hawk/jersey pouf.
Not bad biceps either. She was on the cover of Women's Health a few months ago....

I loooove Nicole. Never ceases to surprise/amaze me. I'll dedicate a post later. I just used her here because I really want/need a leopard scarf like whoa. Boots+red accessory+ leather+ leopard=deliciousness. Her hair is pretty bitchin too. The warrior headband has always bothered me though.

Started with the hair, but is probably going to be my Inspiration for what to wear tonight. Its cold but I'm feeling a micro dress. Who would have thought this was Evangeline Lily? She's usually so boring.....

I rescind. This will be my next hair move. A friend of mine once said I remind her of Ashlee Simpson. This was an odd compliment (I think) on many levels, but goofy-ass behavior-wise, I suppose I would agree. Plus, I would eagerly take Pete Wentz and have 10,000 of his babies...even if he is "fun sized" and even if he is a "designer" (and if by designer you mean makes gymboree style hoodies in size douche.) I'd take Hemingway (his bulldog) too. Nevertheless, Ashlee looks great here and I'm obsessed with her hair. Too daring to go red? Maybe I'll change it up for Monday....

Librarian Style

Yay!!! So I finally got camera and computer to function properly so I could showcase my work outfits. Like I have said from the beginning....these ensembles are nothing to get naked about. They are very boring and not all that cool. BUT, I will tell you what I paid for them and you might think I rule...ok, I rule but still dress really boring. whatev. Ok, so outfit above, pants-$3.99 Blacksburg Goodwill 2 years ago, Black tank- $2.00 thrifted Nicole Miller, Sweater-$12.99 Old Navy crazy post x-mas sale 2 years ago, shoes (not seen) Ann Taylor Loft flats found at Rugged Warehouse $5.00. Total= $23.98
Rainy day. A little more fun. Scarf- free (found after a party I had), Coat- garage sale $5.00, Skirt-thrifted BCBG $6.00, Boots- thrifted $5.99, knee highs- $2.99 drugstore, Top-(can't see) $3.00 thrifted no-name. Total=$22.98
I like this outfit and I like that its so matchy-matchy. Top-Express found at West Chester Goodwill $3.99, Skirt-Stuart Weitzman found at same Goodwill (same day!) $5.99, Shoes-Ann Taylor Loft flats found at Rugged Warehouse $5.00, Shades- Baby Phat (yes gagging quietly) found on clearance at Marshalls $7.00. Total= $21.98.
Close-up of the shades and my face with the best Olsen impression I could muster. Fun fact: supposedly they say "prune" silently to get the pout.
My slave pen (i.e. desk). Clearly thrilled with the tasks at hand. Welcome to my own personal hell.

Summertime When the Livin's Easy

Browsing pics and found a few from probably my best weekend ever this past summer. I "weekend" as part of a summer share in Dewey Beach and it is always a great time. If you've never been there, it is about 1 x 1 mile stretch of beach that is cheap houses and packed with crazy bars. Much debauchery to be had. I try to live there (in some capacity) every summer. The particular weekend of this pic was the East Coast Skimboarding Competition. So many tanned bodies and hot "bros" I could hardly contain myself. Not to mention, said "bros" sure know how to party.

Girl in pics above is my homeslice, Cory. She has the best style of anyone I've ever met. Ever. She looks like she belongs in the racy American Apparel ads and is on a whole other level of cool. She makes her own jewelry (the metal kind) and is a dance-machine. One time she broke her collar bone while raging. She didn't cry until we got to the hospital; not from excruciating pain or anything, but because she didn't want them to cut her favorite dress in order to properly bandage her.
Oh, and this is the one and only pic from Sunday Funday. Unfortunately you can't see my party pants in this one. Supporting my team up top, over the knee boots and AA leggings on the bottom...the lame` ones, haha. I'm happy this pic showcases my skin sans tanorexic-ness. Girl in the middle is shinning example of years past. Girl on the far right is one of my besties, and not a sibling. Odd resemblance huh?

So Fierce

So I saw Frank Miller's "The Spirit" the day after x-mas. Pretty good, but it was no Sin City (although Gabriel Macht is a beautiful specimen of man). I decided to revisit Sin the next day , just to be sure that my memory wasn't pulling a fast one, and that Sin City was, infact, most awesome. Done and done. What I hadn't expected was my newfound obsession with the wardrobe....

James(Jamie?) King was definately hotter in Sin City. (com'on! mickey rourke and "Goldie..."?!) Granted, her role in The Spirit was pretty small and you didn't see more that her head. But look at That Hair! She is some serious eye candy in this role. I guess its easy to be a scene-stealer when your old job was modeling and you run around in lingere.

I remember everyone going apeshit for Jessica Alba in this movie. Yes, she was super hot. However, I would say any girl with a hot bod that puts on chaps is going to get attention. Her wardrobe is alot cornier; more stripper-eqsue with the cowboy hat and Selena bras, whereas the rest of the Basin City girls just look incredibly fierce/badass/cool. Even Brittany Murphy rocked the menswear. Sidenote: this was one of the few movies in which Brittany Murphy didn't annoy the crap out of me.

SO HOT RIGHT NOW! Gives Lucy Liu in Kill Bill a run for her money. Devon just exudes badass-ness.

This was the big surprise. Really? Alexis Bledel (compared to the rest of the cast) raised my eyebrow initially. She blew me away. Prostitute spy who Gail (Rosario Dawson) literally takes a bite out of. I rarely think of that awful show Alexis used to be on because this performance was so legit. And I like the necklaces.....

Faux Pas

To truly appreciate this blog, I wanted to showcase some of the aforementioned fashion boo boos I repeatedly made through out college. Although there were probably "worse" things I wore in high school, I was "original" at the very least, and "fashion forward" at the very best. To me, the pleather pants, vans, and wide variety of belts/scarves that I wore back then, no matter how hideous, were worn with confidence, and working towards becoming (what in my mind) was cool. College, however, was my downfall. Trends, catalog shopping, cookie cutter existance plagued me for a good 3 years. Here's the wonderful look back. (above picture is reformed me...so hot right now...but excuse the sweet potato coloring of my skin. Some remants of sorority life just won't die.)
This is about 2 years ago with the roomate in our kitchen. Outfit inspired by Jennifer Aniston. Almost reformed.

Summer 06-ish? One of the few weekends I left the beach and participated in non-bum activities. This is better than the pictures that follow, but I still look like I was trying to be an extra on Laguna Beach. The hair is soo Kristen.

This is the height of Sorostitute life. Note the fratastic apartment, the doofus boyfriend, the pose. I think that dress was from the mall.....

Mmm-mmm. Circa 05. The mini skirts. Homegirl and I look like a Hollister catalog threw up on us. The side bangs too. Probably the "fittest" I've ever been since this was taken on spring break, but body-con aside, I hate everthing about this picture other than the friend in it.

Not Sure How to Do an Inspiration Board....

My original fashion idol from as far back as I can remember has always been (and will always be) the iconic Gwen Stefani. It began with a love for her music ( I still love No Doubt and will die the day they announce a reunion tour/ new album/ pretty much anything...) and how phenomenal she/they were live. From ages 11 to 19 I went to 7 No Doubt Concerts, dressed like a total Gwen-a-be every time.

She inspired me to buy doc martens, stud my bra straps, cut wifebeaters/ wear a man's undershirt at all, rock studded belts, dye my hair pink, and....apply some serious eyeliner. Although I'm sure I gave my parents a few heart attacks, they always supported and allowed me to emulate Gwen. I have a few theories as to why. 1) (most likely) because given the other choices for female role models, she clearly reigns supreme 2) (less likely) she is so ef-ing cool 3) (probable) she displays an eclectic mix, but also a throwback to a more glamourous age. My parents probably accepted the studs and straps because it accompanied a full face of make-up, meticulously styled hair, red nails, and (aside from the midriff) little exposure of the goodies. I mean, when I was 14 it was 2000. Britney did a striptease......

Although I was never platinum blonde or nearly as tart-a-licious, I would say nearly 80% of everything I wore until about age 18 was influenced by the Great One. (Years 18-21 should be for all purposes forgotten. college + sorority + southern zip code= irreparable fashion mistakes/total sheepism. pastel collars were popped and sweatpants were tucked into uggs.)

Furthermore, she not only made most of her clothes in the early days of No Doubt ( I suggest everyone youtube and watch vintage vh1 "behind the music" on No Doubt), but has a highly sucessful collection as a designer (which one day I will be able to afford). What still blows my mind is that Gwen HAS PERSONAL STYLE. She isn't styled, stylish, or a combination thereof. She is incredibly sexy and unique. She IS style.

If I was better with technology, I would have created a prettier and lengthier collage of photos; a rightful hommage to Gwen. Buuut, right now, this is what I got. One of these days I'll do a "best of" for the minxy Mrs. Rossdale. God, she is B-A-N-A-N-A-S.
p.s. I took clothing and construction in high school and every year we had different requirements of what to make. My sophomore year one req. was making a winter coat. Mine was amazing; a hot pink peacoat with houndstooth lining. Gwen inspired and totally rad. If I can find it I will certainly post a pic.

Just Another Manic Monday

There is no better feeling in the world than seeing your team win. Ok, maybe that's extreme, but I am one very happy Eagles fan on this beautiful Monday after their 26-14 victory over the Vikings in the NFC wildcard playoff. I had a very nice Sunday Funday consisting of sports bars, pitchers, broccoli bites (mmmm), and plenty of cheering. Unfortunately, I always feel like Sundays are bittersweet. Game over=going home. Real world calls for Monday...

On another note, I stole my camera back Sunday morning. Most of the new years eve photos were less than stellar. Might need to steal photos from friends. Most were blurry, cockeyed, or just plain ugly. Luckily, I still had photos to upload from Atlantic City a few weeks back. My friend's birthday bonanza ended up being the pg-13 version of what I had expected. Sucks it wasn't more wild, but fun nonetheless. There aren't any full length shots from the evening (aside from a awful one of me dancing...alone might I add), but this one wasn't too bad. Its actually a dress with a bubble hem bottom. Fun color and uber-comfy jersey material...although not the most flattering dress I've come across. However, our pre-game dinner at Hooters made the thought of anything more form-fitting unbearable. Oh, and my hair is seasonal, by the way. Darker for Winter, bleach for the Summer. I play around with the "dirty blonde" concept.
